English 1P (Periods 3 and 6)

Course Description

Welcome to English 1P!

First, I want to welcome you to our class and let you know how much I look forward to helping you learn and improve your abilities in all areas of English. As you know, being able to communicate well is essential for success in the world, and I am excited to be able to assist you in advancing your vocabulary, writing proficiency, confidence as a speaker, listening capabilities, reading comprehension, analysis skills, and more. The skills you learn in the class will benefit you in the future.

Second, I want to let you know that I will do my part to ensure that you have ample opportunity to enhance your expertise in all of these areas during our time together, but you also have to do your part to make sure this happens. Our class follows all of the school rules, including rules for clothing, hats, food, electronics, and attendance. We will also have some of our own rules, which mainly emphasize responsibility and respect. The most important thing is that you use “common sense” and behave in a positive way; here are some examples:

• Try your hardest everyday!
• Be on time and always come prepared with the necessary materials.
• Be respectful to your teachers, your classmates, classroom, school, and yourself!
• Seek extra help and support when you need it! I am here before school and after school so you can drop by or set up an appointment with me to meet. Santiago also offers wonderful tutoring opportunities.

I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you during the school year. English is a very important class in high school. Take advantage of tutoring or extra help. I am always here to help you (and not just with English). Remember, your experience in this classroom is what you make of it.

I am always here to support you on your journey.
