Welcome to your junior year of English! Congratulations: you are fortunate this year, as enlightened self-awareness. To prepare you for this memorable and exciting year, you MUST continue to read and read often. I look forward to being your guide and coach this year during this challenging yet rewarding aspect of your English education.

Course Goals
For you to become:
An autonomous, creative thinker
Sophisticated in your writing
A lover of American literature
Familiar with America’s complex history as we study it through literature

Grades
Your final semester grade will be made up of the following:
60% will be from your class work, participation, projects
40% from your tests and finals

Extra Credit
You can earn extra credit by:
Going to tutoring and bringing me evidence of attendance
Others TBA

Supplies needed for class
1. At least 200 pieces of paper per semester
2. A one and a half inch 3-ring binder
3. Pencils

Rules

1. All school policies will be enforced.
2. Come to class prepared.
3. When you are in class remain quiet unless otherwise instructed. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary actions.
4. Respect everyone’s opinions and keep an open mind. (This includes my opinions as well) 
5. Major assignments like essays, projects, and group reports are to be turned in on time. Points will be significantly deducted for each day late
6. Homework can be turned in one day late if you have an excused absents, but not at all if you are truant.
7. If you cheat you will receive an automatic zero on the assignment and be put on a cheating contract with the school. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Short term actions for inappropriate behavior
1. Either a verbal or nonverbal warning.
2. Second warning or removal from class for any length of time. Parent contacted.
3. Definitely sent outside if not already out there. (Possible seat change) Parent contacted personally.

Long term responses to inappropriate behavior (These are not in any order)
1. Student will have his or her seat changed.
2. Student will not be allowed to participate in activities that the rest of the class does, and will instead have to do worksheets.
3. Referrals to the office.
4. Removal from class.
