All California schools are "graded" by the State of California and the Federal
Government in Washington. Students must meet minimum proficiency levels
in a variety of academic subjects each year. If schools fail to meet
the State and/or Federal goals, both school-wide and for each
significant ethnic group, they can face reduction of funds and possible
state takeover.
