Imagery / Columbine / (276)

            Dave Cullen applies imagery into his novel Columbine in order to assist us in our understanding of what goes on inside Eric Harris’s head. Eric Harris was ruthless and had, “envisioned half of Denver on fire: napalm streams eating the skin off skyscrapers, explosive gas tanks ripping through residential garages” (276). From this description of what Eric’s dreams are we can see that he is very troubled teenager. His dreams shows us that he wanted to do more than just shoot down a couple students at his high school, he wanted to start an invasion on the world. Eric’s dream of wanting to blow up skyscrapers and decimating neighborhoods shows that he is very much a psychopath. Through the use of imagery, Cullen is able to help us see the malicious thoughts that have engulfed Eric’s mind.
