Principal's Message:

Accomplishments

Santiago High School has had many accomplishments this year thanks to our committed students, parents, staff, and to our numerous caring community members. All stakeholders have gone above and beyond to invest time, energy, and services to our school. Community members who provided assistance this year include: Santiago parents, community volunteers, Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove, the Santiago Alumni Association, the Angels Baseball Foundation, Starbucks Coffee, Value Plus, El Pollo Norteño, and Deck N Shoes. We are grateful to them for their hard work and hope that our community can continue to support them as they contribute generously while we build a college going culture at Santiago High School.

10 Commandments in Education

The collaboration between our parent groups, and our school and district leaders has been extraordinary. On April 29, 2009 during our 10 Education Commandments culminating celebration of the year, parent participants and ELAC leaders personally thanked school staff and district dignitaries. During this triumphant event, there were cultural student presentations on behalf of the district Mariachi group, Viet Club Dance Team, and Ballet Folklorico. Two student testimonies were also shared on behalf of Phuong Huynh and Raquel Zamora. Both students will be attending a university in the fall and have had an abundant amount of support and encouragement on behalf of their parents.

Mrs. Martha Zamora and Mrs. Courtney Nguyen thanked district dignitaries with a special thanks to Dr. Schwalm, superintendent of Garden Grove Unified School District on behalf of the staff and families of Santiago High School. Mr. Mike Miller, assistant superintendent of secondary education, was recognized for his exceptional commitment and leadership in our community. Other dignitaries who were present and recognized for their leadership include: Dr. Debbie Youngblood, director of K-12 educational services; Mrs. Eimi Garcia, coordinator of K-12 educational services; Ms. Teri Rocco, administrator of community outreach and Dr. Gabriela Mafi, director of 7-12 instructional services (assistant superintendent of secondary education for 2009-10).

Close to 200 parents and 55 students completed the 10 Commandments in Education course this year. The following faculty and support staff awarded their participants a certificate of completion: Mr. Urzua, Mrs. Esparza, Mr. Phan, Mr. Murgia, and Ms. Wu. Their outstanding commitment and influence to provide access to higher education is commendable!
